The legendary Middle Rhine Valley, since more than 2000 years populated cultured land and Europe's main artery, was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2002. Retrace Brentano's, Heine's and Goethe's footsteps and admire the half-timbered houses, which has been redeveloped and lovingly restored as restaurants or tea houses.
Visit one of the fortifications, or reward yourself with a play at an open-air theatre or a festival at one of the castles. Another possibility is simply enjoying a glass of white wine at a local winery and a passage on the river Rhine.
